General   Dynamis   Information

Starting Dynamis

Requirements
Prerequisites

The following prerequisites apply to all Dynamis areas:

1. Level 65 or higher.
2. Completion of Mission 5-2 for your nation.
3*. Completion of Chains of Promathia Chapter 3-5: Darkness Named.

* only required to enter Dreamworld Dynamis areas

After meeting the above requirements, zone into Xarcabard. You will receive a cutscene. Following this, examine one set of Trail Markings to receive another cutscene. The Trail Markings can be found just outside each residential area entrance in Windurst Walls, Southern San d'Oria, Bastok Mines or Ru'Lude Gardens. You do not need to visit them all, one will suffice. You will then receive the Key Item Vial of Shrouded Sand. This Key Item is needed to access both groups of Dynamis-related services (Original Dynamis areas and Dreamworld Dynamis areas). Additionally, to enter Dynamis - Beaucedine, one must clear Dynamis - San d'Oria, Dynamis - Bastok, Dynamis - Windurst and Dynamis - Jeuno; to enter Dynamis - Xarcabard one must clear Dynamis - Beaucedine; to enter Dynamis - Tavnazia, one must clear Dynamis - Valkurm, Dynamis - Buburimu and Dynamis - Qufim.

Entering Dynamis

1. To gain access to a Dynamis area, your group must have a Timeless Hourglass. These can be obtained by trading 1,000,000 gil to one of the Goblin NPCs waiting by the entrances to Beadeaux (Haggleblix), Davoi (Lootblox) or Castle Oztroja (Antiqix). Only one Timeless Hourglass will be required for all members to enter a Dynamis area.

2. The Timeless Hourglass can then be traded to sets of Trail Markings or Hieroglyphics, depending on area entered. This will turn it into a Perpetual Hourglass.

3. From the moment the sands of the Perpetual Hourglass begin to fall, the area of Dynamis corresponding to the location will become reserved.

4. By using the Perpetual Hourglass as an item, the Hourglass will create a copy of itself. This can be used to create an infinite number of Perpetual Hourglasses for other people to enter the same Dynamis area, though only the maximum number specified for that area may actually enter.

5. During the reservation period, anyone in possession of the Hourglass (or an Hourglass created from that original Hourglass) can enter that area.

6. Trading the Perpetual Hourglass to the Trail Markings or Hieroglyphics a second time will teleport the player to the reserved area of Dynamis. If this is your first time entering the area, you will receive a short cutscene. (You will not receive this cutscene on successive visits.)

Goblin NPCs

4 Goblin NPCs located at the entrances to the original FFXI Beastmen strongholds are in charge of almost everything related to Ancient Currency and Relic Weapon upgrades. 1 Goblin is in charge of Orcish currency, another one handles Quadav currency and the third one is dedicated to Yagudo currency. The 4th Goblin is the one to talk to when upgrading a Relic Weapon.

One must be in possession of the Vial of Shrouded Sand key item in order to be able to trade with these Goblins. The possible transactions are:

1*. Timeless Hourglass ⇒ obtained by trading 500,000 gil.

2*. Several crafting items (usually needed for certain Relic Upgrade steps) - these items can also be obtained by other means, some drop in Dynamis, some drop from HNMs, etc. ⇒ obtained by trading a set amount of Ancient Currency (note that these items are extremely overpriced and that it would be stupid to spend so much money on these as they can be obtained in much more profitable ways).

3*. Ancient Currency exchange ⇒ by trading either one 100 or one 10,000 piece (to obtain the equivalent in smaller pieces), either by trading hundred single or hundred 100 pieces (to obtain the equivalent in a single bigger piece).

4**. Relic Weapon upgrade ⇒ by trading the required items and a proper Ancient Currency fee.

* only possible with Haggleblix (Beadeaux), Lootblox (Davoi) and Antiqix (Castle Oztroja).
** only possible with Switchstix (Castle Zvahl Baileys).

Switchstix (Castle Zvahl Baileys)

This Goblin NPC can upgrade Relic Weapons to their second, third and fourth stages, given the requested items and commission in Ancient Currency. The fifth and final stage of each weapon is not handled directly by Switchstix, but by the Relic Weapon itself. Instructions detailing how to upgrade Relic Weapons to their final forms can be found on the Dynamis Equipment page.

Dynamis rules

Time: Beginning from the exact time the first Perpetual Hourglass is traded to a set of Trail Markings or Hieroglyphics, you will be given exactly one hour (Earth time) in a Dynamis area per reservation, not accounting for time extensions obtained through defeating certain enemies (these can increase Dynamis time to a maximum of 210 minutes, or three and a half hours). Time limit warnings will be displayed when 10 minutes and 3 minutes remain. (The time your "reservation" expires will always be listed in the item description of each Perpetual Hourglass held.) When the time limit expires, all Perpetual Hourglasses created for that session of Dynamis will become void, and all players in the zone will be removed after 30 additional seconds pass. At this point, it is no longer possible to obtain time extensions.

Leaving: It is possible to leave Dynamis before time has expired. This is typically done by dropping your Perpetual Hourglass or selling it in a Bazaar. Each participant in Dynamis must keep the Perpetual Hourglass in his/her inventory in order to remain in Dynamis; if it is ever dropped or sold, they will be removed from Dynamis after 30 seconds pass, similar to what happens when the time limit on the hourglass expires. As with all other areas, you may also leave Dynamis by being KO'd and Home Pointing, or through teleporting magic or items (such as Warp or Instant Warp). You may re-enter the same area without restriction as long as time has not expired and you still have a Perpetual Hourglass for that session.

Reentering: You may re-enter Dynamis before your Perpetual Hourglass has expired, however, a character re-entering Dynamis will be weakened for 10 minutes. After your time in Dynamis has expired, 72 hours (Earth time) must pass since your initial entering before you may enter any Dynamis area again. Note that trading a Perpetual Hourglass to a set of Trail Markings or Hieroglyphics is counted as entering a Dynamis area, even if you do not actually warp inside Dynamis.

Clearing: Examining the ??? after the boss for the Dynamis area is defeated will grant a Key Item (specific to the Dynamis area) and a title change. After the win, you can check the "Trail Markings" again for another cutscene to progress the story along. Viewing the cutscene is not required.

KO: Experience Points are still lost if you are defeated within Dynamis; it is not possible to gain Experience or Limit Points through defeating enemies in these areas, though it is possible to regain Experience Points through using found items that grant it, such as Copies of "Ginuva's Battle Theory" and Copies of "Schultz Stratagems".

Maximum number of players: In all original Dynamis areas (Cities and Northlands) 64 players can enter the zone at the same time. This limit has been reduced to a maximum of 36 players for the 3 base Dreamworld areas and to 18 players for Dynamis - Tavnazia. Linkshells doing Dynamis have to be careful who they hand out Perpetual Hourglasses to; it doesn't matter how many hourglasses with the same reservation exist (there can be more than the maximum amount of players allowed in the zone), but once the maximum number of players inside the zone has been reached, all players left outside who still own a copy of the Perpetual Hourglass will be unable to enter the zone, even if some of the players who already entered leave the area. This means that for example only 36 people can get the win during the same Dynamis - Valkurm run, it is not possible to switch out people to give more players the win.

General Strategy

Objective?

At the time you enter a Dynamis zone, your group leaders should have a good idea about their objectives for that run. Sometimes it may happen that you get some unexpected surprises during the run (e.g. someone who spills orange juice over his keyboard and then runs into a set of monsters making a certain area unreachable). Objectives should never be a static principle, they can be adapted to accomodate for a new situation. In any case, it is always a good thing to have a good knowledge of the Dynamis zone you're trying to beat so you can make quick decisions whenever necessary.

I can think of four possible objectives depending on the zone: you could either go for the win, either you can go for general farming, or you can go for specific farming and finally, you could farm for currency.

Going for the win is usually the main objective in any city zone (except San d'Oria) or basic dreamland zone. The reason is pretty obvious; in each of those zones, the final boss grants a significant time extension so whatever your group's real purpose is, it's always a good thing to go for the win in these zones. In San d'Oria, unlike in other cities, the mega boss does not grant a time extension, thus Overlord's Tombstone should only be killed if some of the people in your LS need the win or if you've run out of other mobs to farm. After the win has been obtained, the objective normally changes to one of the farming objectives. Obviously, you want to try to get as many items in the Dynamis run timeframe. Getting the win in Dynamis - Beaucedine is purely for giving your members Dynamis - Xarcabard access. Once most of your members have access, your LS shouldn't go for the win in this zone too often cause it takes away some of the precious farming time. The win in Dynamis - Xarcabard doesn't offer you further access to other zones so it's really only about getting the fancy titles associated with killing the Dynamis Lord. Luckily, Dynamis Lord offers some very nice drops making it worthwhile to kill him now and then. Finally, going for the win in Dynamis - Tavnazia is just a means of finishing the quest associated with the dreamworld Dynamis areas. There are 3 cool titles involved but no drops at all. So unless you care about titles, going for the win in Dynamis - Tavnazia is a waste of time.

General farming involves killing as many monsters as possible without going for a specific item. You'll see what you get. This type of farming takes place when fighting Orcs, Quadavs, Yagudos, Goblins, Hydra and non-NM Demons. These monsters can drop any random relic equipment for the zone you're fighing in (except in Tavnazia where Hydra and Demons drop different equipment) so there's no way to target specific monsters for specific items.

Specific farming takes place when you target only specific monsters so you can get specific items. A few examples: popping Attestation NMs in Beaucedine and killing the ones you need, killing all Demon NMs in Xarcabard and then going for the Animated Weapons, killing specific Demon NMs in Xarcabard for a chance of the level 75 Relic piece of the corresponding NM job, targetting only specific Nightmare monsters in any dreamland zone to narrow the possible drops to the ones your LS wants/needs most, killing Dynamis Lord for a chance to obtain Shadow items, ...

Currency farming can be done together with any of the other objectives where you want to kill as many mobs as you can while getting as many time extenders as possible. The best zones to farm currency are cities because they offer the most monsters in a small area. If you have a well experienced group, it is possible to totally clear each of the city zones. The more you kill, the more currency, it's as simple as that. Getting 100s to drop is very random so you should see all 100s that drop as a bonus.

Finally, in most cases, you'd want to try to get all time extenders you can get. Sometimes, you might find that a time extender is out of reach because you're running out of time. In such cases it might be best to give up on that extender and concentrate on getting the win if that's your main objective. In the end it's all a matter of estimating what is right for your group. And I want to stress it again; this requires a good knowledge of the zone, so do your research before attempting any Dynamis zone.

Dynamis Drops

The main reason why most players participate in Dynamis is because they get access to a level 70+ set of job-specific equipment, the so-called Relic equipment. But there is a lot of other neat stuff that can be obtained through the means of dynamis. Relic weapons are some of the most powerful weapons that exist in the game and they can only be obtained in Dynamis. Futhermore there are items like Shadow Ring and Shadow Mantle and last but not least, the somewhat exotic Hydra equipment sets.

Besides equipment, Dynamis participants will find a lot of other items on their journey: common items like beastcoins, several crafting items, experience scrolls, etc. There also exists a group of items referred to as Dynamis currency. Each starting nation has its proper set of Dynamis currency. At first sight, this currency might seem useless, but in fact it is in high demand by some players because it is needed to upgrade Relic weapons and equipment!

Relic armor

Relic armor exists for all 20 jobs in Final Fantasy XI. This Relic armor looks a lot like the level 50s Artifact armor sets, but it has a different color scheme and obviously it has completely different stats as the Artifact and Relic armor sets are in no way related to each other. FFXI players often refer to Relic armor with the term "AFv2", which is short for Artifact version 2, but the correct name is Relic armor.

Originally, SE introduced a set of 5 equipment pieces for each job (head, body, hands, legs and feet). This was before the introduction of the Dreamworld Dynamis areas. Each of the 5 pieces for each job has a different job level ranging from level 71 to level 75. The 3 pieces which are level 71, 72 and 73 each drop in 1 of the 4 City Dynamis areas: San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst and Jeuno. The level 74 Relic armor pieces all drop in Dynamis - Beaucedine and the level 75 Relic armor pieces all drop in Dynamis - Xarcabard.

With the introduction of the Chains of Promathia expansion pack, SE introduced the Dreamworld Dynamis areas during one of the CoP updates. This meant that Dynamis Linkshells now had 4 additional zones to master and to get drops from. What looks interesting at first sight compared to the original Dynamis zones is that all Relic armor that can drop in the original zones can also drop in the the Dreamworld zones. And in addition, Dreamworld zones offer a couple of extra drops, which can only be obtained in those zones. But unfortunately, Dreamworlds are much harder than the original zones and they last only 2 hours maximum (compared to 3.5 hours in original zones), so it's really not worth to do those zones with the goal to obtain the original Relic armor. But on the good side, the old drops and new drops don't drop from the same monsters, so it becomes easy to farm towards specific items in Dreamworld Dynamis areas.

Of the original Relic armor sets, the level 71 pieces all drop in Dynamis - Valkurm, the level 72 pieces all drop in Dynamis - Buburimu and the level 73 pieces all drop in Dynamis - Qufim. In Dynamis - Tavnazia, the Hydras on the first floor can drop level 74 Relic armor, and the Demons on the second floor can drop level 75 Relic armor.

With the arrival of Dreamworld Dynamis, a new level 70 Relic accessory (Back or Waist equipment depending on the job) has been introduced for each of the 20 jobs. In each of the 3 initial Dreamworld Dynamis zones (Valkurm, Buburimu and Qufim) players can find the Relic accessories for 13-14 of the 20 jobs. In other words this means that each job's Relic accessory drops in 2 of the 3 initial Dreamworld Dynamis zones.

Relic upgrade items

2 types of Dynamis equipment can be upgraded. Firstly, all Relic weapons can be upgraded a total of 4 times, each times getting closer to their final stats. In order to upgrade a Relic weapon, one will need a huge amount of Ancient currency along with other items, some of which are normal items which also exist outside of Dynamis, others which can only be obtained through Dynamis and that are often ra/ex.

The first type of upgrade items specific to Dynamis are Attestations. There is one attestation for each type of Relic weapon and they are needed to upgrade a Relic weapon from stage 3 to stage 4. All attestations drop in Dynamis - Beaucedine from Hydra NMs, aka Attestation NMs. There's a total of 5 Attestations NMs, but they are not present in the zone upon entering. They need to be spawned by defeating a certain Shadow Eye. Each Attestation NM can only drop 1 of 3 to 4 Attestations.

Once you have a stage 4 Relic weapon, there's only one last upgrade your weapon has to undergo to become a fully upgraded Relic weapon. But in order to upgrade from stage 4 to stage 5, 2 more Dynamis-specific items are required (along with a large Dynamis currency fee). These items are a Shard of Necropsyche, which drops off the Shadow Dragons in Dynamis - Xarcabard, and the so-called Fragments, which drop from Animated Weapons in Dynamis - Xarcabard. Each Fragment is weapon-specific and can only be dropped by it's corresponding Animated Weapon. The Animated Weapons are spawned upon entering the zone, but they won't drop anything until all 15 Demon NMs have been defeated, at which point the Shadow Dragons will spawns as well.

Secondly, each head, body, hands, legs and feet Relic armor equipment piece can be upgraded to a HQ version (+1 version). In order to upgrade the NQ version of your armor to a HQ version, you will need a worn version (-1 version of that armor) along with a crafting item (non-Dynamis related) and a small Ancient Currency fee. Upgrading Relic armor gives us an additional reason to do Dreamworld Dynamis! These 4 zones are where we have to look to find the worn versions of the Relic armor. Both the NQ version as the worn version are consumed during the upgrade process. All worn Relic head parts can be obtained in Dynamis - Valkurm, the hands parts drop from monsters in Dynamis - Buburimu and the feet parts are to be found in Dynamis - Qufim. The body and legs parts at last drop from specific Nightmare monsters in Dynamis - Tavnazia.
